The Kano State Police Command has arrested five suspected kidnappers and cattle rustlers during intelligence-led operations in Kiru and Tsanyawa Local Government Areas of the state.

The arrests were carried out on December 14, 2025, by operatives of the command’s Anti-Kidnapping Squad and other tactical units, following credible intelligence reports.

According to a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Abdullahi Kiyawa, on Thursday, four suspects were arrested at Rahma Round in Kiru LGA after police operatives cordoned off the area.

“One of the suspects, Shafiu Ibrahim, 25, of Auchanawa Village in Ikara Local Government Area of Kaduna State, confessed to belonging to a kidnapping gang and his involvement in a series of cattle rustling operations,” the statement said.

It added that a TVS motorcycle was recovered from him, while the three other suspects arrested at the same location were undergoing investigation for various criminal offences.

In a related operation, a joint team from the Dragon Unit, Anti-Kidnapping Squad and Tsanyawa Police Division arrested one Bishir Umar, 24, of Karaduwa Local Government Area of Katsina State, at Mahuta Village in Tsanyawa LGA.

The police said Umar confessed that he and his accomplices entered Kano State on two motorcycles with a rifle to carry out criminal activities.

“He was arrested while on surveillance, while the other suspects escaped with the motorcycles and the rifle,” the statement added.

The command noted that all the suspects would be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.

Commending members of the public for their cooperation, the Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, urged residents to continue providing timely information to security agencies.

“The command appreciates the support of the public and calls on residents to continue reporting suspicious activities to the nearest police station or through the emergency numbers,” Bakori said.
