Hon. Abdullahi Zubairu Abiya has been named the Acting State Chairman of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) in Kano State following the removal of the former chairman, Hashimu Dungurawa.
His appointment was approved by the NNPP State Executive Committee during an emergency meeting held at the party’s state secretariat in Kano.
The announcement was made by Barrister Yusuf Mukhtar, the party’s Assistant Legal Adviser, who stated that Abiya’s appointment complies with the NNPP constitution.
According to party insiders, the development came after the Dawakin Tofa Local Government Executive Committee submitted a formal resolution recommending Dungurawa’s dismissal and expulsion.
Earlier, the Dawakin Tofa Executive Committee, led by Hon. Abdullahi Ali Uban Iya Dawanau, forwarded a resolution from the Gargari Ward Executive to the state leadership.
The resolution, adopted during the second executive meeting of the Gargari Ward held two weeks after the general election, accused Dungurawa of engaging in anti-party activities.
Upon reviewing the report, the State EXCO upheld the decision and confirmed Abiya as Acting State Chairman.
Party officials noted that the change in leadership aims to restore discipline, strengthen unity within the party, and reposition the NNPP for upcoming political activities in Kano State.
In his remarks, the Acting Chairman, Hon. Abdullahi Zubairu Imam Abiya, assured members that the party will ensure fairness to everyone while maintaining loyalty to the national leader, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, and the Kano State Governor, Engr. Abba Kabir Yusuf.
