The Comptroller-General of the Customs Service, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, made this known at a press conference in Kano, stressing that the diversion of containers is a serious offence under the Customs Act 2023, which causes loss of revenue to the Government and poses a threat to security. Adeniyi added that seven containers of tiles worth N228.5 million were seized on Hadejia Road, while other containers of diesel and polyester were recovered from storage facilities in Dakata area, while the service arraigned one Abdulrahman Sani Adam before a court, which sentenced him to three years imprisonment or a fine of N3m. Finally, Adeniyi warned importers, brokers and freight forwarders to abide by the rules, assuring that the service would continue to be committed to revenue collection, ease of trade and safeguard national security.
