Kano Executive Council Approves ₦38.6bn for Projects in Infrastructure, Education, and Security

The Kano State Executive Council, chaired by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, held its 35th meeting on Wednesday, 18 December 2025. The Council reviewed major developmental issues and approved a total of ₦38,698,282,407.94 for various projects across critical sectors of the state.

Education Sector

To strengthen the education system and enhance learning conditions:

₦1,698,450,267.36 was approved to clear outstanding payments owed to boarding school suppliers for weeks 5 to 11 of the 2025/2026 academic session.

₦369,966,355.00 was allocated for the rehabilitation of Government Secondary School, Mariri.

₦375,000,000.00 was approved for procuring 50,000 crate bags for primary and secondary school students.

₦1,329,700,162.60 was approved for relocating and rebuilding Maikwatashi and Danwaire Primary Schools at Gama C in Nassarawa LGA.


Works and Infrastructure

To improve road networks and enhance infrastructure:

Revised cost of ₦171,484,811.76 for the Panda–Hamdullahi–Albasu–Sakwayen Dutse Road in Albasu LGA.

₦111,756,366.31 for rehabilitating the Gani Earth Dam in Sumaila LGA.

Re-award of the Gwarzo–Tsaure–Tsanyawa Road project at ₦16,296,423,440.53.

Additional works:

₦455,148,526.12 along Airport Gate–Triumph Roundabout–Murtala Muhammad Way Flyover–KSIP Roundabout.

₦591,280,670.48 along Airport Junction–Ashton Road–Club Road–Murtala Muhammad Way Roundabout.

₦2,229,281,157.18 for revised costs of rehabilitating and overlaying Murtala Muhammad Way through Bompai Road to Audu Bako Way and State Road Junction.

Re-award for completing a 5km dualized road in Karaye LGA at ₦4,426,992,250.50.

₦916,158,333.33 for constructing a Conference Centre at the Governor’s Lodge, Kwankwasiyya City.

₦141,077,362.09 for constructing a Juma’at Mosque with a female section in Imawa Town, Kura LGA.

₦103,744,791.46 for renovating a burnt Juma’at Mosque, Islamiyya School, and Imam’s House in Yalwan Dan Ziyal, Rimin Gado LGA.


Water Resources Sector

To improve water access:

₦182,123,135.25 for a pipeline project from Hotoro Flyover to Hotoro ARTV communities.

₦577,379,925.00 to settle debts for diesel supply and outstanding KEDCO electricity bills.

₦398,257,991.20 for Phase II of the 2025 Abba Kabir Yusuf Reach-Out Water Supply Projects.


Health Sector

₦318,161,919.90 approved for renovating and equipping Lamba Primary Healthcare Centre in Bichi LGA.


Security Sector

₦483,750,000.00 approved for procuring 300 Boxer motorcycles for the newly established Neighbourhood Watch Corps.


Agriculture Sector

₦1,488,368,870.00 approved for constructing the Dangora–Masama–Dansoshiya feeder road and its link to Dansoshiya Dam in Kiru LGA.


Land and Urban Development

₦6,819,254,905.20 approved as compensation for 5,015 property owners in Rimin Zakara.


Office of the Secretary to the State Government

₦130,679,500.00 approved for the fourth tranche of a capacity-building workshop on anti-corruption, financial fraud, leadership, and workplace ethics.


Policy Decisions

Integration of the Neighbourhood Watch Corps into the state’s civil service, with directives for issuance of permanent and pensionable appointment letters.

Approval for immediate settlement of pending contractor certificates for classroom blocks across 44 LGAs, with a one-month completion deadline.

Approval for new management and board members of the Kano State Mining Company.

Initiation of a comprehensive review of the state’s Qualifying Examination Policy.

Approval of outstanding Earned Academic Allowance for staff of Northwest University.

Adoption of measures to eliminate street begging, led by the Ministry of Women Affairs in collaboration with other agencies.

Revocation of certain 5km road projects in Makoda, Doguwa, and Fagge LGAs due to contractor non-performance.

The Council also received:

Introduction of the new Vice Chancellor of Northwest University.

Gifts from the Nigerian Navy Logistics College, Dawakin Tofa; the Saudi Council; Julius Berger; and Gusto Restaurants.

Awards recognizing Kano as the Best Performing State at the 2025 National Agricultural Show.

Best Governor Award on Youth and Sports Development.

National Peace Award as Beacon of Peace in the Northwest.

Several institutional awards and letters of appreciation from national bodies and security agencies.
