Kano State Executive Council Approves ₦6.9 Billion for Major Projects and Programmes

The Kano State Executive Council has approved a total sum of ₦6,900,915,838.99 for the execution of critical projects and programmes aimed at improving the welfare of the people and accelerating socio-economic development across the state.

The approvals were made at the 36th meeting of the State Executive Council, held on Tuesday, 31st December, 2025, at the Council Chamber, Government House, Kano, under the chairmanship of His Excellency, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.

In the land sector, Council approved ₦859,217,654.35 for the payment of compensation to owners of structures affected by the construction of a five-kilometre dualised road in Tudun Wada Local Government Area, to ensure fairness and smooth project execution.

To tackle environmental challenges and enhance flood control, Council approved ₦358,473,978.73 for the construction of storm water drainage and culverts at Tudun Wuzirci in Kano Municipal Local Government Area, under the Ministry of Environment.

The Ministry of Works received the largest share of approvals in recognition of the importance of road and drainage infrastructure. Council approved ₦896,052,327.46 for the reconstruction of a failed multi-cell box culvert along the Kiru–Alhazawa–Bellon Koki Road in Kiru Local Government Area.

It also approved ₦2,619,690,830.10 for the construction of the Y’andodo–Mai-Allo Road in Nassarawa Local Government Area, as well as ₦1,207,398,700.89 for the construction of a 10-cell reinforced concrete box culvert and other hydraulic structures along the Karari–Kwaimawa–Santar Komau–Badau–Dutsen Karya–Gima Road.

In line with its commitment to youth empowerment and skills development, Council approved ₦431,658,000.00 for the graduation ceremony and provision of empowerment kits for beneficiaries of selected Entrepreneurship Institutes across the state, to be implemented by the Steering Committee on the 26 Entrepreneurship Institutes.

In the water resources sector, Council approved ₦85,560,603.98 for the extension of potable water pipelines within Greater Kano, particularly in Gwale Local Government Area, to improve access to clean water.

For the education sector, Council approved ₦285,174,743.48 as the reviewed estimated cost for the construction of storey blocks of four classrooms with offices across the 44 Local Government Areas of the state, to strengthen learning infrastructure.

To enhance transparency and accountability in public service, Council approved ₦157,689,000.00 for the conduct of an anti-corruption workshop for all State Directors (Batch 3), to be coordinated by the Office of the Secretary to the State Government.

On policy matters, the Executive Council approved the transmission of four bills to the Kano State House of Assembly for legislative consideration. These include the Kano State Local Governments Administration Bill 2025, Kano State Economic Planning and Development Council Bill 2025, Kano State Education Bill 2025, and the Audu Bako College of Agriculture, Science and Technology, Dambatta Law 2025, which seeks to rename the institution.

Council also approved the implementation of the reviewed Public-Private Partnership (PPP) Policy and Manual to attract private sector investment.

Furthermore, the Council witnessed the presentation of several awards and recognitions to Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf and the Kano State Government in areas such as digital transformation, leadership excellence, housing development, healthcare delivery, community development, and support for vulnerable groups. Development partners also presented a skill acquisition training package and donated a 32-seater coaster bus to the state.

These approvals and recognitions reaffirm the commitment of the Kano State Government, under the leadership of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, to inclusive development, transparency, and improved service delivery across all sectors of the state.
