Residents of Shekar me daki Sabuwar Gandu community in Kumbotso Local Government Area have been thrown into fear and tension following the killing of a pregnant woman and her 18-month-old son by unknown assailants.
The tragic incident was discovered on Saturday night when the husband of the deceased woman returned home from work at about 8:00 pm and found their house locked.
According to reports, the man, whose identity was withheld for security reasons, became alarmed and made enquiries from neighbours after noticing the unusual situation.
Neighbours reportedly informed him that his wife had not gone out, prompting him to force his way into the house. He was said to have made the distressing discovery of his pregnant wife and their infant son lying lifeless.
Community members subsequently alerted the authorities, while residents gathered at the scene in shock and disbelief.
Confirming the incident, the community leader, Ahmad Sani, said the killing had left residents traumatised.
He noted that the community swiftly mobilised after receiving the report, but lamented the absence of adequate security in the area.
Sani expressed concern that despite the construction of a police outpost in the community, security personnel had reportedly not been deployed.
He called on the Commissioner of Police, Kano State Command, Dr Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, to urgently intervene by strengthening security in the area to prevent a recurrence.
When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the Kano State Command, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, declined to comment extensively on the incident, stating that investigations were ongoing.
